The Boxer (1987)
The Boxer (1987) Cast: Daniel Day Lewis, Emily Watson I did find some strains of similarity between The Boxer and In the Name of the Father, primarily the troubled times in Ireland. Daniel Day gives another spectacular performance along with Emily. Do not expect it to give you anything like Rocky, this is film is on a different level.

Gosford Park

Director: Robert Altman
Cast: Helen Mirren, Jeremy Northam, Clive Owen, Kristen Scott Thomas, Emily Watson
A plot with many subtle plots interwoven, (wounds like a typical tutorial or tute from college). Well, created and set in 1932 in England, it has an lots of characters, their inter-linkages and their development. What it initially looks to be a melodramatic tale, turn to be an murder mystery from some time on. Never the less, a lot of the finer aspects of the values, culture, morals and traditions are neatly exposed (in the right sense J)
I felt somewhere the plot got a bit side railed and lost its sting, it could have been a lot more powerful in its impact.

Separate Lies

Director: Julian Fellowes
Cast : Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson
Year of Release : 2005
Set in London, this story works on multiple levels. Adapted from a book by Nigel (A Way through the Wood). For a movie with so many levels and melodrama, it usually is an adaptation from books. The screenplay gives the anchor to the plot and the movie. The actors are superb and give the movie the needed pace and depth. There are times when they shun typical English mannerisms and break free in times of frustration and desperation.
