Rabbit Hole (2010)

Directed by – John Cameron Mitchell
Cast – Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart
Nominations – Academy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award – Actor in a leading role

Rabbit Hole deals beautifully with the lives of Becca and Howie who have lost their son in an accident. The subject is quite tragic but the plot and the narrative does not delve only on the tragedy part and grief. But there are sub plots as well, the lives of others which get intertwined as well, mostly family and friends.

Nicole gives a superb performance, undoubtedly. I liked the thought process and the concept behind the comic series created, and the detailed and intricate activities that goes into the making of it.

We went for the 10 AM show at PVR on a Saturday, and was expecting it to be not crowded. I was right, we had a free seating as there were hardly 10-12 people in the hall. I had a slightly more number somewhere around 30-35 people when I went for ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’, the previous week.

I am planning to go for ‘The Fighter’ and ‘The King’s Speech’ this week, for the special Oscar screening at PVR. I hope these dismal turnout does not result in cancellation. The other way around is also equally dangerous, if there is a sudden downpour of viewers.

Visually captivating, backed up with an excellent screenplay. Fame Lido in Bangalore cancelled the shows of From Blighty with Love and screened Nine instead. I was quite disappointed of missing the ‘Easy Virtue’ never the less ‘Nine’ made up for it in more than one way…

A walk on the Moon

Do you feel that some actors get stereotyped into certain roles for the major chunk of their career? Whenever I see, Jenifer Aniston, all that I can think is Friends nothing beyond, same case for Lisa Kudrow. For Diane Lane there three movies which I can re-collect and all of them have traces of similar characterization. I think whenever somebody is thinking about casting, its in favor of the actor who has done a role with similar strains. A Walk on the Moon, Under the Tuscan Sky, Must Love Dogs well all of them show streaks of a woman trying to search herself. However when we talk about versatility I believe there are some actors who have this ability to get into the skin of the character more than what one could imagine. For instance Nicole Kidman in Dogville, Felicity Huffman in Transamerica, Heath Ledger in Dark Knight. Heath Ledger in Dark Knight, hats off to Nolan to be able to see Heath Ledger as the Joker. I could not think of the Brokeback Mountain actor to undergo such a transformation.
